This is a new collection of 27 traditional Breton fairy stories. Favourites include, Princess Marcassa, The Widow’s Son and the Three Dogs, The Little White Hare, Pautr Bah Houarn (The Man with the Iron Staff) Jebedic le Ribet and many more.
They are accompanied by over 70 pen and ink illustrations by the author, and will be enjoyed by old and young alike – they also make excellent bed time reading.
History of the Stories
Many of the stories chosen to appear in this collection were collected a century ago by a man called Francois Cadic. He translated them into French, and printed them in a magazine called” Le Paroisse Breton de Paris” – which he himself wrote to help the many Breton immigrants then in Paris.
Despite their great charm, and originality, few of these stories have ever been translated into English.
About the Author
Bethan Lewis lives in Central Brittany, and selected her favourite local stories to include in this book. She has always enjoyed listening to fairy tales, and they have often been the inspiration for drawings, paintings and cartoon strips.
Although she is very fond of all the stories in this collection, her three special favourites are The Little White Hare, Jebedic le Ribet, and Jeanne, Jeanette and Jeaneton.
