This much needed guide to the Poher region of Central Brittany, France, describes some of the best loved spots and sites in the area. It is divided into 6 sections-

  • St Michel de Brasparts
  • Around Tremargat
  • Roman Central Brittany
  • The Nantes-Brest Canal
  • Le Faouët
  • La Vallée des Saints

The book includes maps and illustrations and walkers will appreciate the directions which are included in most of the sections.

Some of the places described include, Les Monts d’Arées,  the Gorge of Toul Goulic, the village of Saint Antoine, near Tremargat (well known for its hemp factory, traditional pottery, community run Cafe, and alternative restaurant) the Chapels of Sainte Barbe, and Saint Fiacre, the Landes de Liscuis, the Gorges de Daoulas, the Lac de Guerlédan, a Roman aqueduct, and the famous statues on the hill outside the little village of Carnoët.

Also included are plenty of local legends, and several reccommended cafes and restaurants.

About the Author
Robert Millar has been connected with Brittany since his childhood, and came to live near Carhaix, in  the Poher region,  in 2003. He was surprised to discover all the beautiful sites, and fascinating legends in his local area, and was inspired to write this guide to Central Brittany.

About the Illustrator
Chris Pemsel moved to Brittany in 2006, and finds that many aspects of the lanscape remind him of his native Yorkshire. For many years a production designer at the BBC, he very much enjoyed working with Rob on this book, since it gave him the opportunity to return to his first love – drawing from Nature.
